Sensepreneur: Learning point from Jessica Alba’s “building her billion dollar business”

Jessica Alba, 34 year old Hollywood star recently shared some details of how she built her business which was recently published by Forbes. As Forbes reported, she is close to securing a spot on the Forbes Richest Self-Made women list.
Apart from being an actress, she is an entrepreneur and the Founder of The Honest Company, a company worth over $1billion. According to Forbes, she created the business in 2008 when she was pregnant with her First child and she had this to say about it, “I wanted to create a safe environment for my daughter, and when I looked at what was available for me to do that, I just didn’t find the answer.

There wasn’t a brand that really spoke to me as a modern woman, a brand that was transparent, that used unquestionably safe ingredients, but was also effective.
The Honest company sells all natural, chemical and hormone free products ranging diapers and wipes to organic beeswax sunscreen and chic $170 vegan-leather diaper bag.
The expositions she gave on building the business is of great worth to every entrepreneur and aspiring entrepreneurs. We will be looking at lessons from building her business which is vital to Entrepreneurship
Lesson 1: Be a Solution Provider
Entrepreneurs are solution providers, they see a gap and they try to fill them. Before starting a business, you really need to ask yourself this question: What solution do I want to provide? Comedians provide solutions to unhappiness and boredom, fashion designers provide solutions to clothing needs.

Jessica Alba launched into entrepreneurship because she observed the gap of safe baby products in her environment and this has become a great success today.
Lesson 2: Build an Ethical Business
Let good ethics be the foundation of your business. Ethics will sustain your business; ethics will bring your customers back to you every time they need your service. Honesty in business quality and pricing will give you customer loyalty.
Don’t ever think you can get away with being unethical; lots of big corporations have crumbled today because they delved into unethical acts.
Jessica Alba made the qualities she desired as the ethos of her business, she went all out to learning and researching all the necessary details to having the quality she desired. She wanted safe materials for babies, she spent 3 years doing online research, endless networking and lobbying in the D.C to reform the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act. The quality of safety that Jessica Alba’s company provides is one of the reasons for her success.

Jessica Alba had to this say “A woman recently shared that after her baby’s chronic diaper rash wouldn’t go away, and she switched to an Honest Company diaper. The baby hasn’t had an issue since”. “We made her life better, and that’s really cool”. That is an Ethical Company.
